018/2017 Preferred Complaints Model
The Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC) has approved a recommendation to adopt Model One (Oversight and appeal body) as the preferred option in respect of complaints reform.
The recently adopted Policing and Crime Act 2017 (P&CA) has introduced a significant change to the police complaint system, building on the previous reforms both of the complaints and conduct system, and of police governance in the form of PCC's. The legislation allows PCC's to determine how complaints will be managed in their area.
A consultation on the proposals has been undertaken with officers from Professional Standards Department (PSD) at Sussex Police, colleagues from regional OPCC's including Surrey, Hampshire, Thames Valley and Kent, Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and the Association of Police & Crime Commissioners (APCC)
