Celebrating Sussex Day

Sussex Day is a chance to celebrate everything that makes the county special but is also an opportunity to reflect on Sussex’s proud policing legacy. The county has long been a trailblazer:

Brighton Police became the first in the UK to use pocket radio receivers in 1933.
In 1966, East Sussex Police introduced high-visibility vehicle markings - now the national standard.
Sussex Police led the way with ID wallets featuring Braille strips in 1998.
In 2001, Sussex became the first force in the UK to deploy pepper spray.

Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne extends a sincere thank you to all Sussex Police officers, staff and volunteers for their ongoing dedication to keeping communities safe across the county, every day.
