Grant Funding Open for Immediate Justice – Apply Today

01/12/2023

After being selected as one of ten trailblazer areas to deliver Immediate Justice (IJ) as part of the Government’s National Anti-social Behaviour (ASB) Action Plan, Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne and the IJ Taskforce have opened grant funding for a second round.

The scheme is fully functional in Brighton & Hove, with over 40 cases managed so far across Sussex too. You can read more about some of these cases on the Sussex PCC website.

By using Out of Court Disposal options, IJ will see offenders undertake visible, practical and meaningful activities, such as graffiti removal, litter picking or maintaining public spaces, swiftly repairing the harm and damage they have caused.

The Immediate Justice taskforce has opened its second round of grant funding applications to identify providers who have the capability and capacity to identify and deliver reparation in the community. Providers will liaise and communicate with offenders and victims, as well as arrange and supervise, suitable reparation activities in the community.

The IJ Taskforce are welcoming applications from a broad range of providers including local services, community hubs and rehabilitation programmes.

Funding is provided for reparative services and activity (including any basic tools and equipment needed to undertake the activity). Reparative services should meet the definition of the Crown Prosecution Service guidance as anything involving perpetrators personally repairing or making good the damage caused by an offence or undertaking up to 20 hours of unpaid work.

To be considered for funding, applicants must complete the relevant forms and attach required documents and submit by 5pm on Friday 22nd December 2023 to Neil.worth@sussex-pcc.gov.uk.

Can your organisation offer reparative activity? Please find more information and relevant documents on the IJ landing page to apply.

Earlier this year, Brighton Business Crime Reduction Partnership Manager, Lisa Perretta, was a successful applicant of the funding with her scheme ‘Putting It Right’.

Since receiving the funding, Lisa has been working with case referrals to carry out Immediate Justice throughout Brighton & Hove. Lisa also engages in educational conversations with offenders to understand what drove them to commit their crime and to educate them on what affect this has on the community as well as their own future.
