Sussex Police ranking top in country for answering 999 calls
Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne responds to news that Sussex Police is ranked number one in the country for 999 call answering times for the fourth month running.
Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne said:
“I’m delighted that Sussex Police is ranked number one in the country for quickly answering 999 calls – and for four months running.
“Over 98% of emergency calls are answered within 10 seconds, with an average pick-up time of just four seconds. That’s outstanding.
“Residents told me they wanted a faster response to their calls. Thanks to the increase in local police precept, Sussex Police has been able to invest and upgrade their technology as well as recruit and train more call handlers.
“Throughout my tenure as Police and Crime Commissioner I’ve steered investment through the police precept into modernising and improving performance and I’m encouraged we’re now seeing these consistent results.
“Behind every 999 call is someone in crisis. This achievement sends a clear message - when you need help in Sussex, help comes fast.
“I will continue to hold Sussex Police to account to ensure it sustains these high standards.”
