Your Story Matters - Safe Space Sussex

13/03/2024

Safe Space Sussex is a website that provides information about various high quality support services in the county, including what they do, where they are based and how victims and survivors can contact them. The featured services cover a vast range of crime types and aim to support people of all ages from different backgrounds.

The visual campaign, which has launched on digital hubs across Brighton and Worthing, amplifies the message to victims of crime, that their story matters and support is out there.

Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne said: “We know that, for many victims of crime, seeking support isn’t easy. I’ve heard from victims that they didn’t know how to tell their story or they thought that, because it happened years ago, it didn’t matter anymore.

“Your Story Matters is our campaign to show victims and survivors of crime that what they have to say is important, they will be listened to and heard and, importantly, there are services in Sussex that can help them learn to cope and recover.

“We will always encourage victims of crime to report to the police so it is only right that we put the same efforts into encouraging victims and survivors to seek support.

“Taking the first step in telling your story can be overwhelming and, by making the Safe Space Sussex website accessible and safe to navigate whilst highlighting trusted and valued professional services, it is just one of many ways we can successfully support victims and protect those who are vulnerable.”

Alan Chambers, Area Manager for Sussex at Victim Support said: “We hope that this important campaign encourages more victims of crime to come forward and seek support. Having a one stop shop for victims services in Sussex will make it easier for people to know what help is available and how to access it.

“Victim Support has been working in Sussex for over 40 years. We offer services to anyone who has experienced crime, including specialist support for children and young people and anyone who has experienced domestic abuse, hate crime and fraud – all of the details about how to get in touch are on the Safe Space Sussex website.”
